History and things to know
According to the temple's tradition, it was founded by Gyōki, an eminent monk from Izumi Province, and later Akan Shōnin restored its buildings, including the Kondō, the Tahōtō pagoda, the tower gate and the refectory. The temple explains that in the Nanboku-chō period Emperor Go-Murakami conducted affairs of state in the refectory, and that the Okuden served as the residence of three retired emperors of the Northern Court.
