History and things to know
According to the temple's tradition, in Yōrō 2 (718) Taichō Daishi, having seen purple clouds from Hakusan, visited this place and was urged to build a temple by an old man who called himself Gion Gozu Tennō. The temple is said to have begun when the Daishi carved an image of Yakushi Nyorai as its principal image and opened the temple.
