History and things to know

According to the temple's account of its origins, it is said to have begun in Keichō 19 (1614) when a monk named Zentatsu built a hermitage and spread the teaching; later 一東異寅 devoted himself to building a new temple and became its founder. The main hall burned in Hōreki 4 (1754), and the present main hall was rebuilt in Meiji 15.
