History and things to know
According to the temple's guide, its founding in Jōwa 1 (1345) is attributed to Takua Shōnin, the seventh-generation Yugyō, and it is said that in fact his disciple 託岸 crossed to Sado and opened it. It was burned in Uesugi Kagekatsu's attack on Sado in Tenshō 17 (1589), but it was rebuilt in Keichō 13 (1608) with the help of Ōkubo Nagayasu, the first Sado magistrate.
