History and things to know
According to the official guide, Suminokura Ryōi, who cut the channel of the Hozu River, moved Senkō-ji, which had stood at Nakanoin in Saga, to its present site in Keichō 11 (1606) and held memorial rites for the people who died in the work. Its Kannon hall, “Daihikaku,” built on a rock face overlooking the river, was damaged by the Isewan Typhoon, but its dismantling and repair were completed in 2012.
