History and things to know

According to the temple's tradition, it is said to have been opened in Shōhō 2 (1645) by 往誉達道 Shōnin as a branch temple of Chion-in. When the ninth head priest, 称誉慧西 Shōnin, rebuilt the temple in Genroku 4, it received its principal image of Amida Nyorai; the Senju Kannon is said to be an image found long ago giving off light in a small pond nearby.
