History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, the mountain's name is said to come from a legend that the ena (afterbirth) of Amaterasu Ōkami was deposited on Mount Ena. The year of its founding is unknown, but its name appears in the Engishiki Jinmyōchō as a shrine of Ena District. According to the official guide, records on munafuda (ridge tags) show that the seven shrines on the mountain were rebuilt in Tenshō 4 (1576).
