History and things to know
According to the temple's engi, it began when Chōgen, who visited this place in Bunji 2 to collect donations for the rebuilding of Tōdai-ji, found a Jizō image buried at the foot of a pine tree and built a hall. It is said that later 大振 Oshō named it Chikō-ji, and in the Chōkyō era 宥覚 Oshō built a hall to pray for the recovery of the local lord of the Isshiki clan from illness and renamed it Enmei-in.
