History and things to know

According to the temple's engi, it is recorded that the risshi 円海 restored it in the Kyōroku era, and its founding is thought to be even older. After a fire in Genroku 2 it moved to its present site and was rebuilt, and in the Meiji period it gave up its role as bettō of Kashima Jinja and merged with neighboring temples. The present main hall was built in Meiji 14 and renovated in the Heisei period.
