According to temple tradition, it began in Shōhō 2 (1645) when the hatamoto Takagi Masanori petitioned to install an image of Tōshō Daigongen here. The temple explains that Yakushi Nyorai is thought to have become the principal image as its honji butsu (original Buddha). Ganzan Daishi was received in Hōreki 3.
