History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, it began in Eien 1 (987) when Abe no Seimei, on his way down to Ōu, observed the lie of the land here, built a shrine and welcomed Toyoukehime no Ōkami. In the Edo period it was revered by the domain lords as the guardian shrine of the Fukushima domain, and the present shrine buildings were completed in Shōwa 13 with the support of the citizens.
