History and things to know
According to the official guide, among the Tendai temples of Kunisaki known as Rokugō Manzan, it is regarded as the Nakayama head temple, the fundamental place of mountain practice, and from the Edo period it has led the whole mountain as the Sōji-in. Its buildings decreased through the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the early Meiji era, wars and disasters, but it is said to continue today supported by successive chief priests and parishioners.
