History and things to know
According to temple tradition, it was founded in Genna 1 (1615), welcoming the monk 玉岫玄球 from Kōtoku-ji as its founding abbot, and it moved to its present site in Genroku 8 (1695). Because it has never suffered a fire, its main hall preserves wooden architecture of the Edo period. The Yakushi Hall in the precincts is said to have an origin older than the temple, and it is a Tangible Cultural Property of the city.
