History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, in Daidō 4 (809) a light appeared around where the shrine building now stands and a three-forked bamboo grew there; a divination rite revealed a message from Hitokotonushi no Ōkami, and so a shrine was built. After that bamboo, this place came to be called 三竹山. The main hall is a designated cultural property of Jōsō City.
