History and things to know

According to the temple's engi, it began in Eiroku 3 (1560) when Isshiki Yoshinao, lord of Satte Castle, installed the Anzan Fudō Myōō, praying for safe childbirth and the growth of his children. When Sugito-juku became a post town on the Nikkō Dōchū in Genna 2 (1616), the temple buildings were put in order, and it drew faith as a prayer temple of the highway. In the Meiji period a district office and an elementary school were also temporarily located here.
