History and things to know
According to temple tradition, it began when, after Ise's death, her younger brother donated the site of her residence as a temple to pray for the repose of Ise and those connected with her. After it burned in fighting in the Tenshō era, rebuilding went ahead from around Genna 1 (1615), and at this time it is said to have changed from the Tendai school to the Sōtō school.
