History and things to know
According to the temple's tradition, it began in Eiroku 6 (1563) when Mōri Motonari built it inside Kōriyama Castle in Yoshida, Aki, to pray for the repose of his eldest son Takamoto, and it moved to Yamaguchi in the Keichō era. In Bunkyū 3 (1863) it moved to temple grounds that began as a villa of Ōuchi Masahiro, merging with Myōju-ji, and so it continues today.
