History and things to know

According to the temple's tradition, it began when 河津三郎祐重, said to be a descendant of the Soga brothers, took holy orders under the name 釋祐存 and turned to Jōdo Shinshū. It is said that after a fire in Bunmei 3 (1471), it received its principal image and temple name from Nishi Honganji in Keichō 6 (1601) and built its halls.
