History and things to know

According to the temple's tradition, it was founded in Tenshō 18 (1590) at the gundai residence in Nihonbashi by 不虚大禅尼, a daughter of Chiba Kunitane, and in Kan'ei 6 the priest 是哲, a leading disciple of Kanchi Kokushi of Zōjō-ji, became its founding priest. After two relocations it moved to Sarue in Kansei 7, and in Heisei 29 the present main hall and priests' quarters were completed.
