History and things to know

According to the official guide, the oldest surviving record is that it was opened in Genna 7 by the monk 賢覚 and became a branch temple of Zen'yō-ji in Higashikoiwa. Few old documents remain and its history before the early modern period is unclear, but a stone memorial tablet (itabi) inscribed with the date Gen'ō 1 was found beneath the floor of the old main hall, and the present main hall was built in Heisei 3.
