History and things to know

According to the official guide, it was founded in Shōhō 2 (1645) with Asano Naganao, founder of the Akō domain, as its patron and 秀巌龍田 as its founding priest. It is described as a family temple of the Asano family like Sengaku-ji in Edo, this one being their family temple in their home domain of Akō. The temple gate in the grounds is introduced as the Shioya Sōmon gate of Akō Castle.
