History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, it began in Jōgan 1 (859) when, as Hachiman was being brought from Usa to Iwashimizu, an oracle was received at this place and a temporary hall was set up to enshrine the kami. In Eishō 3 (1506) Ōuchi Yoshioki sought donations from the Korean kingdom and repaired the shrine buildings and the tower gate, and the shrine received the reverence of successive domain lords.
