History and things to know
According to the official guide, its origin is said to be a temple built after the Ōnin War by Ashikaga Yoshihisa, ninth shogun of the Muromachi shogunate, to pray for the peace of the nation. In modern times Reikō Shōnin, founder of the present temple, following his master's last wishes, brought the time-honored temple name "Eian-ji" to Kanazawa to revive it, and proceeded to build the temple buildings on 鶴舞山.
