History and things to know
According to temple tradition, at the beginning of the Hōreki era both the head priest and an old family of Seya Village received a revelation in a dream, and the Jūichimen Kannon handed down in that family was brought to this temple. It is said that when the temple later burned in a great fire, the Kannon hall escaped damage, so the Kannon came to be revered as the main object of worship and the temple's name was changed to Kannon-ji.
