History and things to know

According to the temple's records, a hermitage already stood here by Ōnin 2 (1468), and a legend remains that villagers found an image of Senju Sengen Kannon that had flown here and enshrined it. In Keian 3 (1650) Tokugawa Iemitsu issued a vermilion seal for the lands of the Kannon hall, and the temple uses the hollyhock (aoi) crest as its temple crest.
