History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, it was the guardian shrine of the town of Kawaguchi, formerly called Hikawa-sha, and its founding is said to date to the Tengyō era (around 940). In the Edo period a sacred mirror was offered in thanks for prayers for the success of the Minuma development works. In the Meiji period the Tenjin-sha, Inari-sha and Kanayama-sha of the town were merged with it and it took its present name, and later it became the chief guardian shrine of the city.
