History and things to know
According to the temple's engi, its founding is attributed to the priest 羕尊, who chose the site in the Tenbun era, and in the Keichō era the second head priest, 羕秀, gave the temple its form. In Meiwa 2 (1765) the present principal image of Fudō Myōō was newly made, and the earlier Yakushi Nyorai was moved to the oku-no-in. With the construction of Lake Tama, the temple moved from its former site at Kamiishikawa to its present location in Imokubo.
