History and things to know
According to the shrine's tradition, it began when Prince Ōdo, while working on the flood control of great rivers in Echizen, enshrined Takaokami no Kami and Kuraokami no Kami in the forest of Keya, praying for the protection of the Kuzuryū River and the peace of the land. In Wadō 1 (708) the spirit of Emperor Keitai was enshrined together with them, and in Gentoku 1 (1329) the shrine is said to have moved to Mount Asuwa and taken its present name. The present main sanctuary was rebuilt in Shōwa 3.
