History and things to know
According to the shrine's tradition, a shrine already stood here as Kukuta Daimyōjin in the Kōnin era of the Heian period. It is said that Fujiwara no Morotsune and others, who arrived here in Jishō 4, revered it in thanks for their safe landing and enshrined their ancestor Fujiwara no Tokihira with it. It was renamed Kikuta Daimyōjin in the Hōreki era, and in Taishō 1 neighboring shrines were merged into it.
