History and things to know

After eruptions and fires, the shrine was restored again and again by monks and by the Shimazu family. The present shrine buildings were rebuilt in Shōtoku 5 (1715) with a donation from Shimazu Yoshitaka. You can follow both the myth and the history of how the shrine buildings have been handed down.
