History and things to know
According to the temple's account of its origins, in 1400 the jitō (local steward) 生口守平 built the temple at a Kannon sacred site on Chōonzan in Setoda and welcomed Guchū Shūkyū, founder of the Buttsūji school, to open it. Its buildings burned in Meiji 6; the main hall was rebuilt with old timber and later dismantled because of deterioration, and the temple now aims for restoration with a temporary main hall.
