History and things to know

According to the official guide, its founding is said to predate the Nanboku-chō period, but no records remain because of fires; it is said to have received temple lands from Tokugawa Ieyasu in Tenshō 19 (1591). Fudō Myōō was installed as the principal image in the time of 空正, who revived the temple around the Genroku era, and the present main hall was built in Heisei 20.
