History and things to know

According to the temple's tradition, it began in Hōki 5 (774) when Wake no Dōzen built a hall to enshrine an image of Nyoirin Kannon, and it was later called Dōzen-ji. It is said that in Enchō 6 (928) it was renamed Konzō-ji, after the name of the district, by imperial command of Emperor Daigo. After falling into ruin through warfare, its halls were rebuilt in Keian 4 (1651) by Matsudaira Yorishige, lord of the Takamatsu domain.
