History and things to know
According to the temple's tradition, it is said to have been built in Kanbun 9 (1669) by Prince Fushimi-no-miya Sadayuki on the lands of his princely house to pray for his late birth mother, with the Zen master 杲山義洋 invited as its founder. It took its present temple name in Hōei 3 (1706), and came under the Kennin-ji branch at the beginning of the Meiji period.
