History and things to know

According to the temple's tradition, it was founded in Eiroku 7 (1564) with the priest 笑翁清馨, 5th abbot of Reiju-ji in Washinomiya, as founding priest and Mikami Saburōzaemon, a retainer of Ōta Ujifusa, lord of Iwatsuki Castle, as patron founder; the temple's name comes from the patron's Buddhist name. It was rebuilt after a fire in Meiji 18, and the present main hall was newly built in Heisei 9.
