History and things to know
According to temple tradition, in Bunroku 1 (1592) 石坂勘兵衛, a former retainer of the Takeda family who had become a hatamoto, built it as his family temple and invited the priest 卜山 (随翁舜悦) as its founder. Its halls were completely destroyed by fire in Bunka 6 (1809) and in the Hachiōji air raid of Shōwa 20, but the principal image survived, and the main hall and priests' quarters were rebuilt after the war.
