History and things to know

According to the temple's guide, it was founded by the priest 亮珍 and originally stood at Hanzōmon; it moved to Ushigome at the time of the construction of Edo Castle, and is said to have moved to its present site in Meiji 43. Its treasured image of Senju Kanzeon Bosatsu is called the Kosodate Kannon; temple tradition holds that Sugawara no Michizane carved it himself, and it is a tangible cultural property of Nakano City.
