History and things to know
According to temple tradition, it was originally the Tendai temple Nōman-ji, which burned in Bunmei 13 (1481); two years later Masuda Shirō Shigetomi, lord of Takami Castle, rebuilt it and it became the Sōtō temple Monju-ji. Its founding priest was 崇芝性岱. The main hall, after burning in Shōwa 11, was rebuilt in Shōwa 33, and a mid-Edo-period mountain gate remains.
