Enshrined kami: Sugawara no Michizane-kō (with Amaterasu Sumeōkami and Susanoo no Mikoto enshrined alongside)

History and things to know

According to the shrine's tradition, it began in Manji 3 (1660), when Sunamura Shinzaemon, who had been entrusted in the early Edo period with developing new rice fields along the Uchikawa river basin, welcomed a divided spirit of Michizane-kō from the Tenmangū of Kamifukushima village in Settsu Province, which he revered, as the protector of the new fields. The Suijin-sha, which had been worshipped to the east of the village, was merged into the shrine in Meiji 41, and the main sanctuary and worship hall were newly built in Heisei 13.
