History and things to know
According to temple tradition, it was opened in the early Heian period by Jikaku Daishi (Ennin) of Mount Hiei. The entire temple was lost when it was burned by the Takeda clan in the Sengoku period, and in the Edo period it converted to the Rinzai sect and was renamed Manshō-ji. After the Kannon hall burned in an accidental fire in Shōwa 16, the present Kannon hall was built in Shōwa 21.
