History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, Takeminakatatomi no Mikoto is said to have enshrined Miwa Myōjin here in the time of Emperor Jinmu, and it is thought to be a divided spirit from Ōmiwa Jinja in Nara. In the Sengoku period the lord 堀池千代寿丸 moved the shrine building from the mid-slope of Mount Jōdai to its present site at the foot of the mountain, and in Shōwa 14 it was ranked as a prefectural shrine.
