History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, Minamoto no Yoritomo, who was deeply devoted to Mishima Myōjin in Izu, received a divided spirit of that kami at this place in Hayama after his uprising of Jishō 4 succeeded. The Azuma Kagami records that the shogun held yabusame and kasagake here, and in Tenshō 19 shrine lands were donated by Tokugawa Ieyasu.
