History and things to know
According to the official guide, it is said to have been founded in Tenshō 7 (1579), at the wish of Satomi Yoshiyori, as a branch temple directly under Kōyasan in Kii, and it became the prayer temple of the Satomi family. The eighty-eight-temple pilgrimage on the mountain is said to have been opened following a revelation in which Kōbō Daishi appeared in a nun's dream.
