History and things to know
According to the engi document handed down at the shrine, it began in Chōtoku 1 (995) when the deity was brought to this place from Kizuki Taisha in Izumo. It is said that because its approach was long, about 465 m, it was called “Nagamiya-sama,” and a town grew and flourished in front of its gate. From the time of the Odawara Hōjō clan into the Edo period it was revered by castle lords and local stewards (jitō), and in Heisei 7 a festival marking a thousand years since its enshrinement was held.
