History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, it was founded in Keichō 1 (1596) by the hatamoto 岡野房恒, who had become lord of Nagatsuta, by inviting Nyakuichi Ōji Gongen from Kumano Shingū (Hayatama Taisha). With the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the Meiji period it was renamed Nyakuichi Ōji Jinja; after its buildings were damaged by the Kanogawa Typhoon in Shōwa 33, a shrine building in the gongen-zukuri style was completed in Shōwa 61.
