History and things to know

According to temple tradition, in Genna 2 (1616) Ono no Otsū found a Jizō giving off light in a rice field in Negishi and enshrined it in her hermitage, and later the priest 的山, passing by, re-enshrined it as the Migawari Jizō. In Kan'ei 7 (1630) the priest is said to have built a hall, installed the Amida triad and founded Sainen-ji.
