History and things to know
According to the official guide, building a great Kannon statue was planned in the early Shōwa period and work began in Shōwa 4, but construction stopped because of financial difficulties and other reasons, and the statue remained unfinished for a long time. After the war, funds were raised again; work resumed in Shōwa 32, and the dedication was celebrated in Shōwa 35.
