Enshrined kami: Ōagata no Ōkami
History and things to know
According to shrine tradition, the enshrined kami Ōagata no Ōkami was at first enshrined at the summit of Mt. Hongūsan, and in the 27th year of Emperor Suinin (3 BCE) a new shrine was built at the present site and the kami moved there. It is listed as a Myōjin Taisha in the Jinmyōchō of the Engishiki, and in Taishō 7 it was ranked as a Kokuhei Chūsha. The present buildings were restored in Kanbun 1 (1661) by Tokugawa Mitsutomo, lord of the Owari domain, and preserve the Owari-zukuri style.
