History and things to know
According to the temple record, it began in Yōrō 3 (719) when Gyōki built a hermitage near the second station of Mt. Fuji. In Einin 6 (1298) it became a Ji-shū practice hall through the teaching of Taa Shinkyō, and in Genki 3 it moved to the present site to avoid yukishiro (snowmelt mudflow) disasters. In the Edo period, members of Fuji-kō groups are said to have purified themselves at the purification place (shōjinba) here.
