History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, it began when Naniwa Neko Takefurukuma no Mikoto, sent to Hida in the time of Emperor Nintoku, enshrined the spirit of Emperor Ōjin and prayed for victory at Sakurayama. In Genna 9 Kanamori Shigeyori, lord of Takayama, rebuilt the shrine buildings; after they were almost entirely burned in a great fire in Meiji 8, the present main sanctuary, offering hall and worship hall were constructed in Shōwa 51.
